Purpose
This document explains how to write for AI Time Journal.
We are building a structured archive about how enterprise AI is deployed in real production environments. Contributors are not writing casual blog posts. Each piece becomes part of a long-term executive reference library.
The goal is consistency across authors while preserving intelligence and voice.
Every article should help a serious reader make better decisions.
Audience
Our primary readers are:
- executives deploying AI in production
- infrastructure and platform leaders
- governance and risk decision-makers
- operators responsible for enterprise systems
- founders running real AI deployments
They are not looking for inspiration or trend summaries. They are looking for operational clarity — what systems work, how decisions were made, and what tradeoffs leaders accepted.
We do not write for general consumers or beginners unless a piece explicitly serves an educational series.
What we look for in contributed pieces
Every piece published on AI Time Journal should:
- explain real production systems
- describe governance or infrastructure decisions
- reveal operational tradeoffs
- document how AI is deployed inside organizations
- clarify how leaders manage risk and scale
- help executives make better decisions
We do not publish opinion columns, promotional content, or trend speculation. If a piece does not help a reader decide, build, or understand something real, it does not belong here.
Editorial voice
The tone across AI Time Journal should feel:
- calm
- precise
- analytical
- non-promotional
- non-hyperbolic
We do not use words like:
- revolutionary
- disruptive
- game-changing
- paradigm shift
- magic
- future of everything
We do not predict the future. We document the present.
We do not celebrate companies or technologies. We explain them.
Writing rules
1. Clarity over cleverness
A sentence should mean exactly one thing. Readers are senior. They do not need metaphors or build-up.
Every sentence should answer one of:
- what happened
- why it matters
- what changed
If a sentence does not answer one of those, consider removing it.
2. Specificity over abstraction
Weak: "Company improved operational efficiency using AI."
Strong: "Company reduced incident resolution time from four hours to forty-five minutes by deploying a retrieval-augmented triage system across its NOC."
Numbers, systems, architectures, and named tools are always better than vague claims.
Technical detail should be included when:
- operationally relevant
- necessary to understand architecture
- tied to decisions
Do not include technical depth for its own sake. Include it when it serves executive reasoning.
3. No vendor marketing language
We do not describe what products claim to do. We describe what they actually do.
If a company says "we revolutionize X," we report: "The company deploys X using Y architecture and serves Z clients."
Avoid superlatives. Avoid adjectives that evaluate without evidence.
4. No generic advice
"Some experts say AI is transforming industries" is not a sentence we publish.
Every claim must be:
- attributed to a specific person or system
- tied to a deployment, decision, or result
- verifiable or at least traceable
No "many believe" or "it is widely expected" formulations.
5. Decision framing
Every piece should frame at least one real decision.
Good: "The CISO chose to keep PII processing on-premises after evaluating three cloud-based alternatives."
Bad: "AI is raising questions about data privacy."
Every paragraph should connect to a:
- decision
- tradeoff
- constraint
- risk posture
- governance structure
Editorial checklist
Before publishing, every article should pass these checks:
- the title describes a system change
- the summary explains an enterprise outcome
- a CIO, CTO, or CFO would take the piece seriously
- the tone feels analytical, not promotional
- questions extract decision intelligence
Article discipline
Every article must have:
- a thesis
- a structure
- a reason to exist
If the piece could be a press release, it should not be an article.
If the piece does not teach, reveal, or explain, revise until it does.
Every article should advance the reader's understanding of:
- how AI is built
- how AI is deployed
- how AI is governed
- how leaders make AI decisions
Case study discipline
Case studies are the backbone of our archive.
Every case study must include:
- real constraints
- real tradeoffs
- measurable outcomes
- operational friction
We do not publish case studies that only describe success. Failure, friction, and adaptation are more valuable than celebration.
Citation and sourcing
All claims must be sourced. This includes:
- research
- statistics
- regulatory frameworks
- architecture claims
Sources must be:
- named
- traceable
- credible
Internal links to prior coverage are expected. No article should exist in isolation.
Tone boundaries
We welcome:
- critical analysis
- skepticism
- caution
- disagreement
We do not publish:
- ridicule
- personal attacks
- ideological framing
- sensationalism
The boundary is always: does this help a reader make a better decision?
Length guidance
There are no word count targets. Length should match depth.
- Interviews: long-form and deep
- Analysis: 800–2,000 words
- Case studies: structured and dense
- Profiles: concise and archival
Short and useful always beats long and empty.
Editorial responsibility
Contributors should:
- connect to existing coverage
- extend the archive
- strengthen taxonomy
- avoid becoming orphan content
Every piece should link to at least one prior AI Time Journal article. If none exists, the piece may be the anchor for a new topic — and that should be stated.
Final principle
If a piece would not survive a skeptical reading by a sitting CIO, it is not ready.
Every article in AI Time Journal must serve the reader's real-world:
- governance
- infrastructure
- deployment
- leadership decisions
We are not building a blog. We are building an archive. Write accordingly.
